New Species Found in the Himalayan Region0A total of 211 new living creatures were discovered in the Eastern Himalayas between 2009 and 2014, according to a report by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF)세계야생기금. The region ranges from the middle of Nepal to Myanmar. The discovery emphasizes that this area is one of the most biologically diverse places in the world.
The sneezing monkey and walking fish are among these new species. Scientists call the sneezing monkey “Snubby” because of its upturned nose. The monkey’s nostrils are faced upward, so it sneezes every time it rains. The monkey ducks its head between its knees to avoid the raindrops. The walking fish has a blue body, and when the body touches ground, it can walk. This fish can also breathe air and survive on land for up to four days.
New Species Found in the Himalayan Region2The WWF warned that only 25 percent of the habitats in the region remain intact, and the region is facing threats due to development and global warming. Examples are population growth, deforestation, poaching, and wildlife trade.
